At San Francisco Dental Implant Center, we service a lot of patients in Oakland. Despite what you might think, the cost of dental implants in Oakland can be higher than they are in San Francisco because on this side of the Bay there are more specialists than in Oakland.
Dental implants have been around since the 1950’s and in the last few years the procedure has come on in leaps and bounds so that today dental implant procedures are carried out by specialist surgeons such as our Drs Rabinovich and Sanders several times every day. This is because a dental implant is a perfect replacement for a missing tooth or teeth because it works in the same way as the original tooth did.
Certainly, you can still get dentures, but those are just so 20th century. Even the best fitting dentures have a tendency to slip and slide about whereas a dental implant cannot do that. Furthermore, with dentures you have to take them out at night and soak them in a cleaner, which is not a lot of fun. As you get older, dentures can slip about further, and it has not been unknown for a denture wearer to throw back his or her head laughing out loud at a joke and have the dentures fall out of the mouth. Can you imagine the embarrassment?
That Doesn’t Happen With Dental Implants
None of that happens with dental implants. A titanium screw is inserted into the jawbone and over a period of a few weeks, up to perhaps six months, the jawbone grows tightly around the implant so that it cannot move. In effect, the implant becomes a part of the jawbone in the same way that the original tooth root was. Then a crown is fitted to the top of the implant and – lo and behold – you have a tooth which is as good as the original, if not better.
You get back your smile and you can once again eat anything that you wish. Perhaps one of the most important things is that dental implants will restore your self-confidence. Many people who have teeth missing feel that they have to put their hand over their mouth when they laugh, so that they are not embarrassed by showing the gaps. But when you have dental implants there is no more need to do that.
Furthermore, the cost of dental implants in SF is often less than the cost of dental implants in Oakland, so it is worth a visit to us to find out. After all, the cost of a BART ticket is neither here nor there.
