Imagine you come home from a hard day at the office in San Francisco. Your dog greets you at the door. Maybe you’re down and you don’t smile. Your dog seems to know this. Maybe you’re up and you do smile. Your dog seems to know this as well.

New Research Shows Dogs Love Human Smiles

A new study from the University of Vienna showed that dogs are much more sensitive to the human smile than you might think. Dogs co-evolved with humans over thousands of years, and they understand our facial expressions. The scientists did MRI brain scans of various dogs, and they showed them pictures of smiling, angry, fearful, and sad humans. The dogs’ reward centers in their brains lit up at the human smiles. In plain English, it turns out that dogs seem to like human smiles. Dogs like it when we smile.

Humans also obviously like smiling. Humans communicate in many ways. We speak, we use hand gestures, and we have facial expressions. Indeed, if you’ve ever tried to tell a lie, sometimes your face gives you away. Or if you’ve ever been really sad and you try to pretend that you’re happy, your facial expressions, especially your smile, also give you away. A smile is a key part of who we are, and it makes other people respond to us in a positive way.

Dental Implants Can Help Restore Your Smile

What happens, however, when you are embarrassed about your smile?

This can happen if someone is missing teeth. Or if you have damaged teeth. Or if you just have dental problems.

Dental implants are an amazing way to help recover your smile. They can replace a single missing tooth, especially a missing tooth in the front part of your mouth. Or if your entire set of teeth is damaged or missing, you can actually have whole-mouth dental implants.A San Francisco dog smiling at his owner, who just got dental implants.

What dental implants do is restore your smile. Yes, they help you chew your food better, but sometimes the real value is in your self-esteem, and it is in the je ne sais quoi of how other people treat you when they see you smile. You don’t want to be embarrassed and not smile. And you don’t want to appear as though you’re sad or frustrated when you’re actually healthy and happy.

Your Smile Is Precious. Share It.

Your smile is precious. You should share it. Returning to the dog research, dogs have shown just how important smiles are to the relationship between a dog and his human owner. The same goes for us. Whether it’s to get a date, get a promotion, or just get along with people in the office or people you meet, a healthy and vibrant smile is an asset.
