Spring is just around the corner in the Bay Area and it’s time for some “Spring cleaning”. Do you have a great smile? Are you missing one tooth? Perhaps more than one? Or, perhaps – let’s face it – you’re a candidate for dentures.

Consider this Spring working on your smile and coming in for a consultation on dental implants.

Dental implants are just so superior to dentures. With dentures you need to use adhesives to keep them in place, and even so, they can slip when you eat, and even when you talk, which can make your words sound mumbled. You also have to take them out at night and put them in a cleaning solution. Furthermore, if dentures become loose and you laugh out loud, they can actually fall out of your mouth, which is embarrassing in the extreme.

Replacement Tooth Roots Made Of Titanium

Dental implants, on the other hand, are replacement tooth roots that are inserted into your jawbone. They are made of titanium and once inserted your jawbone will grow tightly around them and clamp to them. This process takes a few weeks and is called osseointegration. Once the implant is secure, your dentist will attach a small post to it known as an abutment, and then the crown which has been crafted to match your other teeth is attached to that. In order to make the new tooth or teeth, your dentist makes impressions of your teeth and creates a model of your bite which captures an image of all your teeth and their arrangement, and then the new tooth, or crown, is based on that model.

Once again you can laugh and smile, and eat any type of foods that you fancy, such as corn on the cob and BBQ ribs, without having dentures slipping about and hurting. Neither is there any fear of dentures slipping and your words coming out in a mumble. There is improved comfort because your implants become a part of you, and they give you back your old confidence so that you can smile and laugh without thinking about it. A dental implant is also far better than a bridge because you don’t have to have two perfectly good teeth on either side of the bridge cut down in order to support it. Dental implants are also extremely durable, and with proper care can last a lifetime.
